TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT                                  


MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, May 13 through Saturday, May 19 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 Storm Repair Along the Big Sur Coast
Due to past slides, State Route 1 is now closed at the Ranger Station North Ragged Point Inn and at Mud Creek.

Highway 1 – Gorda to Lime Creek Bridge: May 15 – May 18
Day time paving along Highway 1 between Gorda and Lime Creek Bridge from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project: May 11th Update
Construction work continues next week, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, with high truck volumes as crews move dirt and materials across Rio Road.

The dirt and materials are being moved from the south side of Rio Road to the north side construction site. Trucks and equipment will be crossing Rio Road at regular five to ten-minute intervals with crews controlling traffic during these crossings.

Night work is planned for Wednesday, May 16, between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. This work will be behind the concrete barriers, and will involve relocating telecommunication lines to previously installed new utility poles located near the bike and pedestrian path east of Highway 1.

Additionally, the Monterey County is working to install additional construction signs to help drivers navigate the construction area and access local businesses.

Drivers wishing to avoid the intersection may detour to Carmel Valley Road and Carmel Rancho Boulevard. All business and shopping centers remain open during construction.

Monterey County Resource Management Agency, in partnership with the Monterey County Office of Emergency Services, has announced the creation of a text message alert service for the Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project.

Highway 68 – Pacific Grove: May 14 – May 18
Caltrans Monterey maintenance crew will be performing a paving operation on both directions of Highway 68 in Pacific Grove starting Monday, May 14, Caltrans officials have announced. Details are as follows:

  • Monday, May 14: #2 (right) lane closure of westbound 68 at Prescott Lane.
  • Tuesday, May 15: #2 (right) lane closure of westbound 68 at Forest Hill Blvd.
  • Wednesday, May 16: #1 (left) lane closure of eastbound 68 at Forest Ave.
  • Thursday, May 17: #2 (right) lane closure of eastbound 68 at Forest Ave.

Roadwork hours are from 8:30 am to 2 pm. Motorists can expect delays not to exceed 10 minutes. Electronic message boards will be activated to inform the public about this roadwork. The CHP will be present to assist with enforcement and traffic control. All work is expected to be completed by Thursday, May 17.

This paving operation is necessary for the safety of the travelling public and to prolong the life of the roadway.

Highway 68 – Salinas River: May 14 – May 18
There will be alternating lane closures on eastbound Highway 68 between the Reservation Road and Hunter Lane for bridge work. The work will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Highway 101 – Greenfield: May 14 – May 18
Daytime shoulder work along southbound & northbound Highway 101 from Harden Farms Road to Oak Avenue in Greenfield will occur from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Highway 101 – Soledad to Chualar: May 14 – May 18
Night time striping along Highway 101 between Soledad and Esperanza Road from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

City of Marina – California Avenue: May 14 – May 18
Day time road work will result in the closure of California Avenue between Reindollar Avenue and Imjin Parkway from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
