Every May, Committee members work on Bike Week with Agency staff, the Salinas Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (SBPAC) and AMBAG's Commute Alternatives staff to put on events throughout Monterey County that support bicycle transportation. |

The Committee also assists with the development of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County's General Bikeways Plan. This long range planning document sets forth goals and objects for bicycle transportation and identifies priority projects to construct over the next ten years. The plan also identifies programs that will be conducted to promote bicycling throughout the county. The Bike Plan is an important document because when it is accepted by the State, the cities and county become eligible for State Bicycle Transportation Account grant funding. |

The 2% Transportation Development Act (TDA) program provides 2% of all state Transportation Development Act funds to bicycle and pedestrian projects. The Transportation Agency for Monterey County overseas the distribution of about $250,000 per year under this program. Funds are directed to regionally important projects either through staff recommendations and countywide competition. |

To encourage the improvement of local roads to better support bicycling, the Transportation Agency for Monterey County has created the Bicycle Facilities Service Request Form. These forms are available online and at most bicycle shops. To report potholes, debris in the bike lane, or other impediments to bicycling, members of the public can submit this form to the Transportation Agency for Monterey County. We will relay your information to the responsible agency. Our hope is that all of these efforts will encourage more people to consider riding a bike or walking to work or school, to the store, or for recreation. |

The Transportation Agency for Monterey County is administering the Bicycle Protection Program, funded by Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District (MBUAPCD) funds, to help private businesses, local jurisdictions, school districts, and other public agencies in Monterey County acquire bicycle parking racks, and lockers. The program provides bicycle-parking facilities to businesses and agencies that agree to install them securely in a convenient location for use by patrons and/or employees and to monitor the usage of these facilities |
