2004 Transportation Excellence Honorees are:
 
Individuals:

Reinie Jones Reinie Jones, Cal trans District 5 Local Assistance Engineer
Caltrans District 5 Local Assistance Engineer:
Ms. Jones provides assistance to Monterey County in meeting state and federal requirements with bicycle and pedestrian facilities, bridges, traffic signals, planning and other projects. Ms. Jones provides the highest level of knowledge and professionalism balanced with an understanding of the requirements of project delivery.
 
Patrick Kerr
Patrick Kerr, Union Pacific Railroad Manager of Industry and Public Relations.
Union Pacific Railroad Manager of Industry and Public Relations:
Mr. Kerr’s instrumental role in the development of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County's railroad grade crossing program resulted in a significant cost savings as well as a successful partnership with Union Pacific Railroad.
 
 
Larry Parsons
Larry Parsons, Monterey Herald Reporter
Monterey Herald Reporter:
As a reporter for local newspapers, Mr. Parsons has helped raise awareness of critical transportation issues in Monterey County. Mr. Parsons has consistently reported on transportation issues throughout the region in a factual and well-balanced manner and has ensured that important Transportation Agency for Monterey County decisions and actions are covered in the newspaper.
 
Community Event:

The “Let US Ride” charity event in support of the Lance Armstrong Foundation was an extremely successful event thanks to the hard work, support, and dedication of the Salinas Californian newspaper and HSBC (formerly Household Credit Services). The event showcased the City of Salinas and the Salinas Valley as a wonderful place to bike ride and motivated over 500 participants to use bikes as a healthy mode of transportation.
 
Projects:

City of Monterey
Lighthouse Avenue Corridor Improvements.
This improvement project has significantly decreased the daily traffic volume and accident rate at the intersection of Lighthouse and David Avenue. The improvements to this major thoroughfare which extended around the Presidio of Monterey into the heart of the Monterey Peninsula have also had a dramatic effect on congestion and air quality. City of Gonzales  
5 th Street Beautification Project.
The entire community has benefited from this visually appealing project, which connects the east and west side of Gonzales. The project has significantly cleaned up major traffic in the downtown area caused by two heavily impacted truck routes. City of Gonzales, 5th Street Beautification Project
   
Non-Motorized Transportation:  
Clear Channel Radio and Entravision Communications’  
on-air promotion helped Monterey County Bike Week 2004 experience a significant increase in riders and sponsors. With such substantial support the message of Bike Week was able to reach a wider audience making the event a great success. Monterey Salinas Transit:  
The establishment of Line 23 Sunday Service has enabled South County residents may travel to Salinas more efficiently. In addition, Monterey-Salinas Transit introduced its new fleet of American Heritage Streetcar Trolley buses in the summer of 2004 to the Waterfront Area Visitors Express ( WAVE). The WAVE route is a 13-year-old service designed to help visitors get around easily during the busy summer tourism season while reducing traffic and parking congestion. Monterey Salinas Transit
