District 17 Congressman
 
Congressman Farr successfully gathered $10.2 million for projects in Monterey County in H.R. 2764, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for 2008.

Projects:
   
South Sanborn Road Improvement Project
This project has reduced congestion on Sanborn Road, a heavily traveled arterial, by adding a third lane in the northbound and southbound lanes. The project also provides smoother, quieter, more comfortable riding pavement, improved traffic signal operation, and aesthetically pleasing landscaping features. The City of Salinas worked in close coordination with local businesses to minimize construction impacts in this critical agricultural distribution corridor.
 
 
 
 
Marina Transit Exchange:
Monterey-Salinas Transit
This state-of-the-art facility is located in the heart of what will soon become the largest community in coastal Monterey County. MST designed this facility in coordination with the City of Marina to meet the future demand for transit as thousands of new homes are constructed in North and South Marina.
 
 
 
 
 
 
   
Arroyo Seco Road Bridge,
Monterey County
The new Arroyo Seco Road Bridge provides safe passage for all traffic, especially oversized farm equipment and school buses. This heavily used span directly enhances access, safety, mobility, environment, quality, economic activities and viability of the community it connects.

Lance Atencio,
General Manager, MV Transportation
Mr. Atencio has successfully increased the on-time performance and over-all reliability of the RIDES bus program for the elderly and disabled. Under his direction this program have experienced fewer delays and problems with scheduling and vehicle maintenance. Mr. Atencio's openness and willingness to respond to stakeholder feedback has increased the value of this program to community members. Agencies have also increased confidence in the efficiency of this program.
 
 
   
Michele Allen,
Traffic Reporter, KSBW-TV
Ms. Allen's daily traffic reports provide essential information for viewers that save them time, energy, and money. Her reports also help prevent accidents which translate into a safer commute and savings to taxpayers.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
   
Tom Carvey,
Executive Director, Common Ground:
As the host of the "Your Town" radio and television show, Mr. Carvey has helped increase public awareness of transportation issues by holding bi-weekly transportation interviews on the show.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Monterey County Health Department,
Monterey County Bike Week Sponsors
The Health Dept. has been an extraordinary support to Monterey County Bike Week. They have worked closely with the Transportation Agency in promoting bicycling as a healthy transportation alternative as well as providing monetary support towards the event to ensure that students were fed a healthy breakfast on bike to school day.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Highway 156 Safety Improvements Task Force

Called together by Supervisor Lou Calcagno, this team of Caltrans, Monterey County, TAMC, and community representatives worked together to successfully recommend short-term safety improvements to the Highway 156 corridor. Vital projects such as the new no passing zone, will improve the lives of thousands of commuters, visitors and truckers that travel Highway 156 everyday.
 
 
 
 
State Route 146 Bypass Study Group
This team worked together successfully to draft a study report for a bypass, which will allow trucks to avoid the local business district and schools. It will improve safety for local schools, pedestrians, and traffic. In addition to enhancing circulation, the new bypass will improve truck travel time and fuel usage.

Rideshare Rewards Club,
Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments
The Rideshare Program recorded over 14,000 round trips using alternative forms of transportation in its first seven months. It has successfully encouraged commuters to carpool, vanpool, bicycle, walk, ride the bus, telecommute, drive a motorcycle, or drive a hybrid vehicle, with the goal of mitigating traffic congestion and reducing emissions from fossil fuels.

City of Soledad Traffic Impact Fee Program,
City of Soledad
The traffic impact fee program will allow the city to construct transportation facilities that accommodate new developments within the city limits. This program will also mitigate congestion caused by new development.

Frank Henderson,
Hartnell Alternative Transportation Committee Co-Chair and Rideshare Coordinator
Mr. Henderson is an enthusiastic promoter of alternative transportation by regularly using his bicycle to commute from Marina to Salinas, teaching bicycling classes and giving numerous speeches and lectures on bicycling.

Peter Le,
Senior Civil Engineer, City of Soledad
Mr. Le has successfully practiced engineering for 25 years in Monterey County and with various local public agencies. He is involved in all facets of transportation and traffic engineering, from traffic modeling to street design to interchange planning.
