Green Now and for the Future

The Transportation Investment Plan will:  
   
Preserve natural habitat
 
Set aside valuable agricultural lands
 
Foster partnerships with environmental agencies
 
Support alternative transportation
   
 
Moss Landing
Preservation of Habitat
 
All projects in the plan are carefully designed to preserve sensitive habitat.
 
If impacts are unavoidable, meaningful habitat will be preserved elsewhere.
 
No major bypass project is funded for construction in the plan.
   
   
   
   
   
 
Valuable Agricultural Lands  
Salinas feilds
Each project avoids agricultural lands to the extent possible:
 
The highway projects are designed to minimize impacts on agricultural land.
Other projects set aside replacements land in productive, usable areas, when nearby agricultural land is affected.
 
 
 
   
  Partnerships
The Transportation Agency is working with these environmental agencies to set aside meaningful habitat as a migration for transportation projects and fund trail projects:
 
The Big Sur Land Trust
 
Coastal Conservancy
 
California State Parks
 
The Elkhorn Slough Foundation
   
   
Alternative Transportation Promoting alternative transportation
The Transportation Investement Plan supports alternative transportation by:
Increasing funding for public transit
Bring in passenger rail to Monterey County
Supporting bicycle and pedestrian access.
