TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT                                  



MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, August 12 through Saturday, August 18 – newest information is in red. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.

Highway 1 South Coast: August 14 – August 17
Daytime Bridge work along Highway 1 at Willow Creek Bridge with traffic control between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Highway 1 South Coast: August 17
Daytime bridge work along Highway 1 at Limekiln Bridge with traffic control between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Highway 1 Carmel to Sand City: August 12 – August 17
Night time gore paving with intermittent lane and ramp closures at multiple locations along Highway 1 between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.

The locations are:

  • From Carmel Valley Road to Holman Highway 68
  • Holman Highway 68 to Aguajito Road
  • Casa Verde Way
  • Del Monte Avenue
  • Highway 1 / Highway 68 Interchange
  • Sand Dunes Drive

Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project: August 12 – August 17
The current phase of work on the Highway 1 Climbing Lane Project will end August 17th to make way for Car Week event traffic.

Here’s what expected for the week of August 13th:

  • Work hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • On Thursday, August 16th, there will be night work beginning at 7:00 p.m. through to Friday at 5:00 a.m. to do temporary striping on Highway 1 and remove the K rails.
  • Friday, August 17th at 5:00 a.m. begins a no daytime work time period in the project area. Off highway work such as landscaping will continue.

Looking ahead to the week of August 20th, while there will be no daytime construction, expect some overnight work as crews install traffic detectors at both Carmel Valley and Rio Roads. This will require some alternating lane closures.  There will be additional details on this next week.

Drivers wishing to avoid the intersection may detour to Carmel Valley Road and Carmel Rancho Boulevard. All business and shopping centers remain open during construction.

Highway 68 – Pacific Grove to Monterey: August 12 – August 17
Night time road work along Highway 68 between Piedmont Avenue and Highway 1 will result in lane closures and delays 8:00 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Highway 68 – Monterey to Laguna Seca: August 12 – August 17
Night time pavement work along Highway 68 between Highway 1 and Laguna Seca will result a lane closure and delays from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Highway 101 – Soledad – Greenfield: August 12 – August 17
Night time striping operations on Highway 101 from Soledad to Greenfield from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

San Juan Grade Road Resurfacing Project

A road resurfacing project on San Juan Grade Road began August 6th and is expected to last 30 days.

The project area is from Russell Road to Rogge Road.  Construction hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and commuters can expect delays during these hours due to temporary traffic controls and lane closures.  To resurface the road, construction crews will use both pavement recycling techniques as well as traditional asphalt paving.  When complete, the work done on this stretch of road will improve its drivability as well as extend pavement life. 

This project has an estimated cost of $832,000 is made possible with local funding through Measure X.
