Monterey Herald: Letter to the Editor “Measure X will provide local fundig for roads”

Measure X will provide $600 million in locally controlled funding to help make critical repairs and safety improvements to our local roads and streets. This is money that cannot be taken by the State. We helped shape the Measure X Transportation Safety and Investment Plan, along with a broad variety of other community leaders. This plan devotes 60% to city and county road improvements, and 40% for regional safety and mobility projects for commuters, seniors and schoolchildren.

As a nonprofit whose sole purpose is to provide dignified, arm-through-arm and door-through-door services to seniors and visually impaired adults, we are grateful that Measure X has clearly delineated $15 million specifically to the transportation needs of seniors. In addition the Measure X plan will:

-Make safety improvement to Highways 68 and 101, and improve traffic flow;

-Fix potholes and fund local city and county road repairs in all parts of the county;

-Build a safer interchange at Highway 156 and Castroville Boulevard, to help traffic flow and reduce crashes at this very high accident location;
