Imjin Parkway Roundabouts Will Open Tomorrow on Friday, August 22, 2025
DATE: Thursday, August 21, 2025
MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC), in partnership with the City of Marina, announced that the roundabouts on Imjin Parkway in Marina will open on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 6 am. The occasion marks a significant milestone of the transition to next phase of the Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabouts construction project.
The roadway configuration will be ONE lane in each direction, and all the roundabouts (Imjin Road, Marina Heights Drive, Abrams Drive, and Preston Drive) will be in a SINGLE LANE configuration while construction shifts into Phase 3 to complete work at Reservation Road, Preston Drive, Abrams Drive, Marina Heights Drive, and near Imjin Road.
With the opening, TAMC and the City of Marina stress the importance of following the general rules of the road while navigating a roundabout:
Rules of a Roundabout
· Yield at Entry: Vehicles entering the roundabout must yield to traffic already circulating within it.
· Counterclockwise Flow: Traffic moves in a counterclockwise direction around the central island.
· No Stopping in the Circle: Avoid stopping in the roundabout unless traffic conditions require it (e.g., a pedestrian crossing).
· Maintain Your Lane: Once in the roundabout, stay in your lane unless you are changing lanes to exit.
· Signal Your Exit: Signal your intention to exit the roundabout well in advance, typically with your right turn signal.
· Pedestrian Safety: Be aware of pedestrians crossing at the designated crosswalks and yield to them.

The Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project is sponsored by the City of Marina and the Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) with funding of the $40.5 million project provided from voter-approved Measure X ($18.5 million), and Senate Bill 1 (SB1) Local Partnership Program funding ($20.25 million) and Local Impact Fees ($2 million).
The project will make improvements along the Imjin Parkway corridor, from Imjin Road to Reservation Road. The approximately 1.7 miles of roadway improvements include expanding the existing two lanes to four lanes, constructing four new roundabouts at intersections, and modifying the existing signal at the Reservation/Imjin intersection. Project amenities include class 2 bike lanes, a multi-use pathway, crosswalk beacons, storm-water improvements, street lighting, artwork, and landscaping.
The Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project is anticipated to be completed in May 2026.
Background Information
Imjin Parkway Widening & Roundabout Project
The Project is a road safety and widening construction project along a segment of an important connector route between the Monterey Peninsula and the greater Salinas Valley. The segment is located on the former Fort Ord military base (between the cities of Marina and Seaside on the Monterey Peninsula) between State Highway 1 and Reservation Road.
Construction will complete widening of Imjin Parkway by adding a lane in each direction between Imjin Road (near California Avenue) and Reservation Road; replacing four (4) signalized intersections with roundabouts near existing neighborhood areas; creating pedestrian crossings at intersections for safer access to and from the surrounding neighborhoods and educational areas; adding bike lanes along each side of the roadway for the length of the roadway extension; and installing lighting and landscaping.
