PACIFIC GROVE & SMART GROWTH AMERICA HOST WORKSHOP SERIES TO ENVISION SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS TO THE SUNSET DRIVE/STATE ROUTE 68 CORRIDOR

MONTEREY COUNTY – The City of Pacific Grove and Smart Growth America are hosting a workshop series on Wednesday, November 9, and Thursday November 10, 2022, to envision safety improvements to the Sunset Drive/State Route 68 Corridor.
The workshop series facilitated by the national non-profit organization Smart Growth America is designed for community members to provide input and to participate in a walking audit of the area to help improve safety and access for everyone traveling — whether walking, biking, rolling, taking transit, or driving—at the 5-way intersection of Sunset Dr, Congress Ave, and Cedar St.
While this Measure X funded project is specific to the intersection it presents an opportunity to think broadly about the SR 68 Sunset Drive corridor. Community members will have the opportunity to share their aspirations for this corridor; what they already love about this area that this project could enhance; and how the project team can make the intersection and the surrounding neighborhood safer and more inviting for everyone.
The 3-part series is designed to build on each other, and participants are encouraged to attend as many as they can. The details for the workshop series are:
Sunset Drive/State Route 68 Corridor Envisioning Workshop Series
· PART 1: 11/9 EVENING WORKSHOP from 5:30 - 7:15 pm at the Pacific Grove Community Center
· Part 2: 11/10 WALKING INTERSECTION AUDIT from 12:30-2pm at the southwest corner of Sunset Dr., Congress Ave & Cedar St (next to the high school track)
· PART 3: 11/10 EVENING WORKSHOP from 5:30-7:30pm at the Pacific Grove Community Center
TAMC Board Member and Pacific Grove City Councilmember Chaps Poduri is a 2022 graduate of the Smart Growth America Champions Institute, an initiative that equipped a hand-picked group of 20 national elected officials to advocate and support complete streets in their communities. Following completion of the six-month program, Councilmember Poduri advocated for (and received) follow-up assistance from CDC and Smart Growth America (for free to the City) to support Complete Streets work. The City selected the Sunset Drive/SR 68 Corridor, and the 5-way intersection, as the focus of the follow-up assistance. This assistance is in addition to the Measure X funds allocated by TAMC for the project.
The Champions Institute is presented in support of the Active People, Healthy Nation℠ Initiative, Smart Growth America (SGA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity. The Institute’s objective is to help motivated local elected officials to equitably define, design, build, and evaluate Complete Streets in their communities. The program’s equity-based principles align with the Transportation Agency for Monterey County’s (TAMC’s) mission to create a multi-modal transportation system that is equitable and safer for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and motorists.

PACIFIC GROVE Y SMART GROWTH AMERICA ORGANIZAN UNA SERIE DE TALLERES PARA VISUALIZAR MEJORAS DE SEGURIDAD EN EL CORREDOR SUNSET DRIVE/STATE ROUTE 68
CONDADO DE MONTEREY - La ciudad de Pacific Grove y Smart Growth América están organizando una serie de talleres el miércoles 9 de noviembre y el jueves 10 de noviembre de 2022, para visualizar mejoras de seguridad en el corredor Sunset Drive / State Route 68.
La serie de talleres facilitada por la organización nacional sin fines de lucro Smart Growth América está diseñada para que los miembros de la comunidad brinden información y participen en una auditoría de caminata del área para ayudar a mejorar la seguridad y el acceso para todos los que viajan, ya sea caminando, andando en bicicleta, rodando, tomando el transporte público o conduciendo, en la intersección de 5 vías de Sunset Dr., Congress Ave, y Cedar St.
Si bien este proyecto financiado por la Medida X es específico para la intersección, presenta una oportunidad para pensar ampliamente sobre el corredor SR 68 Sunset Drive. Los miembros de la comunidad tendrán la oportunidad de compartir sus aspiraciones para este corredor; lo que ya aman de esta área que este proyecto podría mejorar; y cómo el equipo del proyecto puede hacer que la intersección y el vecindario circundante sean más seguros y acogedores para todos.
