 MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) announced that they are hosting a series of events seeking community input on the Monterey County Active Transportation Plan to help make local streets and roadways safer for people walking and biking in their communities.

The series of events beginning next week and continuing into the fall include tabling at community events, the formation of small community focus groups, and  the release of a county-wide bilingual survey in both English and Spanish. The planning team will table at one community event in each of the 12 cities in the county and two community events in the unincorporated County. The planning team will also host one focus group in each of the 12 cities and two in the unincorporated county.

Members of the public are encouraged to help develop the active transportation network by finding TAMC’s table at a community event or joining a focus group in their city. The focus groups will take a deeper dive into the analysis that led to the proposed active transportation network and potential solutions to common challenges community members face.

Emphasizing the importance of the public participation in this effort,  Todd Muck, TAMC’s Executive Director, stated, "Community members are the eyes and ears of what’s going on.  They know what the conditions are like for them as they travel back and forth from their homes, schools, or jobs.” He went on to add, “We need their help to identify places that need improvements to make it safer for them to travel while promoting safe, healthy, and equitable mobility for everyone."
