TAMC Hosts Active Transportation Plan Workshop to Introduce Project and Receive Feedback at Hartnell College“

DATE: Monday, June 15, 2026

MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) announced that the agency will be hosting a “Monterey County Active Transportation Plan” workshop on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 pm, at Hartnell College, 411 Central Avenue, Salinas.

Community members are invited to attend the workshop to learn about the project and provide feedback on the engagement plan for the Monterey County Active Transportation Plan which aims to make walking, biking, and rolling in Monterey County safer, more convenient, and more accessible for everyone. The county-wide planning effort aims to prioritize safe and comfortable infrastructure for people biking and walking. This is the first phase of public engagement, with the second phase in Fall 2026. The second phase of engagement will seek input on project recommendations. In addition to project recommendations, this plan will generate a strategy for implementation.

Todd Muck, Executive Director, TAMC, stated, “What is especially valuable about this Active Transportation Plan update is that it goes beyond identifying needs. It also includes a countywide level of traffic stress analysis to help us understand where people feel safe walking, biking, and rolling, and where they do not. That gives us a stronger, more data-informed foundation for prioritizing improvements, and public input remains essential to making sure that analysis reflects real, day-to-day experiences in our communities.”

Janneke Strause, Senior Transportation Planner, TAMC, emphasized that the planning team seeks initial feedback on the engagement plan at the June 24th meeting. During the second phase of engagement in Fall 2026,  she says public input at pop-up events and in focus groups will  “ensure that our planning efforts will a develop infrastructure that is safer and makes people feel comfortable as they choose to be active by walking, biking, or rolling and scooting around from their homes, schools, work locations or any other destinations in Monterey County.”

Members of the public can also provide feedback on areas of concern by clicking on the Participate button at https://www.tamcmonterey.org/monterey-county-active-transportation-plan.
