Transportation Agency for Monterey County Launches Social Media Campaign to Highlight New Regional Wayfinding Signs
March 6, 2026
MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) installed new bicycle and pedestrian wayfinding signs as part of the Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Wayfinding plan for Monterey County. TAMC will launch a social media campaign beginning March 09, 2026, and continuing through May 29, 2026, to promote sign locations and encourage residents and visitors to explore local destinations.
The social media campaign will highlight the new signage, build long-term recognition of wayfinding signs, educate the public on how to use the signs effectively, and showcase featured routes and landmarks. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the wayfinding signs and encourage bicycling and walking as viable transportation alternatives.
Community members can follow the campaign on Instagram and Facebook @tamcmonterey. And share their favorite wayfinding route by tagging @tamcmonterey and using the hashtag #FindYourWayMRY.
With the new signs in place, residents and visitors can now more easily find their way to iconic Monterey County destinations including historic downtowns, coastal trails, parks, schools, and popular visitor attractions. The system is designed to help people explore local communities without needing a car, making it easier to enjoy everyday trips on foot or by bike.
The wayfinding rollout is part of TAMC’s broader effort to expand safe, reliable active transportation options throughout the region. Monterey County has seen growing demand for walkable and bike‑friendly infrastructure in recent years, and clear navigation tools help make those networks easier to use for people of all ages and abilities.
“This new wayfinding system makes it easier than ever for people to explore Monterey County’s incredible destinations without relying on a car,” said Todd Muck, Executive Director of the Transportation Agency for Monterey County. “Whether you’re a long‑time resident or a first‑time visitor, these signs help you find your way to parks, schools, town centers, and waterfronts all while encouraging healthier, more active ways of getting around. We’re excited to highlight these routes and invite the community to discover just how connected our region truly is.”
The social media campaign will focus on a new goal each month. March will focus on wayfinding sign promotion to increase awareness. April content will center on educating residents on how to read and use the signs effectively. The goal for May is to encourage action and inspire more residents to walk and bike by showcasing featured routes, landmarks, and everyday destinations that are accessible using the wayfinding system. This will be done through engaging posts, short videos, and a wayfinding landing page used to build long-term recognition of the wayfinding signs and encourage active transportation throughout Monterey County.
The campaign also supports regional tourism and economic vitality by helping visitors navigate local communities more confidently. TAMC is exploring opportunities to coordinate messaging with regional tourism partners to amplify the campaign’s reach.
