NOTICE OF CONSTRUCTION Portola Drive Temporary Partial Road Closure
The Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC) is implementing a pilot project to address cut-through traffic using Portola Drive to avoid congestion on Highway 68. This project has already implemented Phase I which was a partial road closure prohibiting drivers from entering Highway 68 from Torero Drive. This eliminated drivers from using this cut-through route, but now some have started using a new route on Portola Drive near Creekside Court.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
To address the cut-through traffic using Portola Drive, TAMC is working with the County of Monterey and Caltrans to implement Phase II of the pilot project. This phase will install a partial road closure on Portola Drive near the intersection of Creekside Court to prohibit westbound traffic from entering the neighborhood from River Road. The proposed project will be similar in nature to the traffic control measures installed near the Phase I improvements near Torero Drive. This pilot project is temporary in nature. We expect to complete an evaluation of the pilot project once traffic has adjusted to the Phase II improvements, and the project team will then work with the community to identify next steps.
