TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT
MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, June 28 through Saturday, July 4– newest information is in bold text. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.
Highway 1: 1 Mile North of Point Sur Lighthouse – Point Sur Lighthouse: Long Term
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1, beginning one mile north of the Point Sur Lighthouse and ending at the Point Sur Lighthouse for temporary signal slide work. Travelers may encounter a 15-minute delay.
Highway 1: Postmile 53.30 – Postmile 54.3: April – July
One-way traffic controls will be in place along southbound Highway 1 between Postmile 53.3 and Postmile 54.3 for slide and temporary signal work.
Highway 1: Fremont Blvd/California Avenue: June 6 - August 5
There will be full lane and on-ramp closure along southbound Highway 1 at Fremont Boulevard and California Avenue for roadway excavation work from 12 am to 12 pm.
Highway 1: Big Creek Vista Point – Big Creek Bridge: June 22 – June 26
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Big Creek Vista Point and Big Creek Bridge for core drilling work from 7 am to 5 pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.
Highway 1: Rocky Creek Bridge – Rocky Creek Viaduct: May 29 – August 31
One-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Rocky Creek Bridge and Rocky Creek Viaduct for bridge work from 6 am to 6 am.
Highway 1: Ventana Entrance – Nepenthe (North Entrance): June 25– August 2
Alternating one-way traffic controls will be in place along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Ventana Entrance and Nepenthe (North Entrance) for electrical work from 7 am to 5 pm.
State Route 68: Torero Drive & Portola Drive: August 6 – June 30, 2026
There will be an early morning partial closure on westbound Portola Drive from 6 am to 9 am, Monday through Friday. Westbound traffic will be blocked at the driveway of Toro Elementary School, between the intersections of Torero Drive and Portola Drive, and Davenrich Street and Portola Drive. Vehicles will not be able to enter Highway 68 from Torero Drive at 9:00 am; the road will reopen to regular traffic. The weekday partial closures will continue through June 2026.
The Toro Park Cut Through Traffic Pilot Project is designed to re-route traffic that diverts from Reservation Road and Highway 68 into Serra Village and Toro Park during commute hours to avoid traffic congestion on Highway 68. The project is also designed to address safety concerns and congestion in the residential Toro Park communities, inundated with aggressive drivers who take Portola Drive as an alternate route and speed through a school zone to re-enter Highway 68 at Torero Drive.
Highway 101: Jolon Road – Central Avenue: June 29 - July 2
There will be one lane closure along northbound Highway 101 between Jolon Road and Central Avenue for k-rail installation 8 am to 6 pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.
Highway 101: Jolon Road – Lagomarsino Avenue: Long-Term
Daytime and Overnight Lane Closures will occur along northbound and southbound Highway 1 between Jolon Road and undercrossing near King City to just north of Lagomarsino Ave. near Greenfield for grinding and paving work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm and overnight from 8 pm to 6 am.
The on and off-ramps of Jolon Rd. will intermittently be closed in both directions of US 101 as paving work in that area takes place.
Message and directional signs will alert travelers in advance of the areas under traffic control. Please allow for extra time for your travels through the area.
Highway 101: Hobson Avenue – Teague Avenue: June 29 – August 31
There will be alternating lane closures and shoulder closure along southbound Highway 101 between Hobson Avenue and Teague Avenue for drainage work and AC paving work from 8 am to 6 pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.
Highway 101: SB Route 101 – SB Broadway: June 29 - July 2
The off-ramp lane will be closed along southbound Highway 101 between Southbound Route 101 and Southbound Broadway for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.
State Route 183: Union Street – Speegle Street: June 28 – June 29
There will be alternating lane closures along northbound State Route 183 between Union Street and Speegle Street for striping operation work from 8 pm to 5 am.
State Route 183: Speegle Street – Route 1: June 29 – June 30
There will be alternating lane closures along northbound State Route 183 between Speegle Street and Route 1 for striping operation work from 8 pm to 5 am.
State Route 183: Crane Street – Cooper Street: June 30 – July 1
There will be alternating lane closures along northbound State Route 183 between Crane Street and Cooper Street for striping operation work from 8 pm to 5 am.
State Route 183: Pajaro Street – Rico Street: July 1 – July 2
There will be alternating lane closures along northbound State Route 183 between Pajaro Street and Rico Street for striping operation work from 8 pm to 5 am.
State Route 183: Washington Street: May 15 – June 30
There will be full closure of all lanes along Washington Street at State Route 183 for roadway excavation work from 7 am to 12 pm.
State Route 183: Monterey Street/Palm Street – Wood Street/Haro Street: May 15 – June 30
The right shoulder will be closed along northbound State Route 183 between Monterey Street/Palm Street and Wood Street/Haro Street for roadway excavation from 7 am to 12 pm.
State Route 183: Monterey Street/Palm Street: May 18 – June 30
There will be full closure of all lanes along Monterey Street/Palm Street at State Route 183 for roadway excavation work from 9 am to 12 pm.
State Route 218: Charles Avenue – Wilson Drive: June 26– September 25
There will be lane and sidewalk closure along eastbound and westbound State Route 218 between Charles Avenue and Wilson Drive for curb/gutter/sidewalk work from 7 am to 12pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.
State Route 218: Roberts Avenue – Route 1: June 29
There will be one lane closure along westbound State Route 218 between Roberts Avenue and Route 1 for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm. Travelers may encounter a 5-minute delay.
State Route 183: Hilby Avenue – Sonoma Avenue: July 4
There will be full closure of all lanes along eastbound and westbound State Route 218 between Hilby Avenue and Sonoma Avenue for a special event from 8 am to 7 pm. Travelers may encounter a 10-minute delay.
Carmel Valley Road Resurfacing Project: June 29 – October 31
Traffic control measures such as lane closure and one-lane reversible traffic control will be in place during construction between Carmel Rancho Boulevard and Via Petre for pavement repair work from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm and with some night work between 7 pm to 5 am.
Construction work will be suspended, and all work areas will be cleared during the following dates:
· Friday, July 3, 2026 – July 6, 2026: Fourth of July Holiday Weekend
· Wednesday, August 5, 2026 – Monday, August 17, 2026: Monterey Car Week Event
Vierra Canyon Road Overlay Project: June 22 – July 17
Traffic controls will be in place between Oak Road and Matterhorn Place for asphalt removal and replacement from 7 am to 4 pm. Access to residents may be impacted during construction hours and residents should expect delays.
Old Stage Road Full Depth Reclamation/Overlay Project: June 22 – July 28
There will be full closure of Old Stage Road between Alisal Road and Calle El Rosario for pavement reconstruction. Traffic will detour northly through Zabala Road.
Access will be provided to local residents living within the work zone to get to their homes. In the event of an emergency, first responders will be afforded priority through the work zone.
San Benancio Road Construction Project: June 17 – July 10
There will be a road closure between Troy Lane and the intersection of San Benancio and Corral De Tierra Road for road reconstruction from 7 am to 4:30 pm.
The road will be closed to through traffic while crews are actively working. The road will be closed daily from 7 am to 11:45 am and from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Traffic will be detoured through Corral De Tierra Road.
Marina: SURF! Busway: June 1 – June 30
Intermittent lane closures will occur along a section of Playa Avenue between California Avenue and Del Monte Boulevard for night work from 8 pm to 6 am. Traffic impacts will be minimal.
Marina: Imjin Parkway: Long – Term
There will be closure of the lane next to the median curb in segments between roundabouts for median work starting June 15.
The roundabout artwork installations will require the closure of the inside lane of each roundabout while the artwork panels are set.
TIPS FOR DRIVING ROUNDABOUTS:
1. Vehicles in the roundabout have the right of way.
2. Vehicles merging into the roundabout:
• Check for crossing pedestrians!
• Yield to vehicles in the roundabout and merge safely
