TAMC CONE ZONE REPORT

MONTEREY COUNTY – Here are the major scheduled road and lane closures for Monterey County from Sunday, August 10 through Saturday, August 16 – newest information is in bold text. Please keep in mind that construction work is weather-dependent.     

Highway 1: Turnout South of Vicente Creek – Turnout South of Lime Creek:  Long – Term 

There will be full closure of northbound and southbound Highway 1 between the turnout south of Vicente Creek and the turnout south of Lime Creek due to emergency repair work.

Highway 1: Potrero/Moss Landing Rd #2 Molera Road: August 12 – August 13

There will be one lane and shoulder closure along southbound Highway 1 between Potrero/Moss Landing Rd #2 and Molera Road for utility work from 9 am to 3 pm.

Highway 101: Crazy Horse Canyon Rd – Dunbarton Road: August 10 – August 15  

There will be shoulder lane closures along northbound and southbound Highway 101 between Crazy Horse Canyon Rd and Dunbarton Road for drainage work from 7 pm to 5 am. Travelers may encounter 20-minute delays.

Highway 101: Ralph Lane: August 10

There will be traffic breaks along northbound and southbound  Highway 101 at Ralph Lane for utility work from 5 am – 8 am. Motorist may incur 5-minute delays.

Highway 101: Camp Roberts Rest Area Closure: Long – Term

There will be full closure of the Camp Roberts Rest Area along southbound  Highway 101 for emergency repair work.

State Route 68: York School Road – Blue Larkspur Lane: August 12 – August 13

There will be one lane closure along eastbound and westbound State Route 68 between York School Road and Blue Larkspur Lane for utility work from 8 pm to 5 am. Travelers may encounter 5-minute delays.

State Route 68: Torero Drive & Portola Drive: August 6 – June 2026

There will be an early morning partial closure on westbound Portola Drive from 6 am to 9 am, Monday through Friday.

Westbound traffic will be blocked at the driveway of Toro Elementary School, between the intersections of Torero Drive and Portola Drive, and Davenrich Street and Portola Drive. Vehicles will not be able to enter Highway 68 from Torero Drive at 9:00 am, the road will reopen to regular traffic. The weekday partial closures will continue through June of 2026.

The Toro Park Cut Through Traffic Pilot Project is designed to re-route traffic that diverts from Reservation Road and Highway 68 into Serra Village and Toro Park during commute hours to avoid traffic congestion on Highway 68. The project is also designed to address safety concerns and congestion in the residential Toro Park communities, inundated with aggressive drivers who take Portola Drive as an alternate route and speed through a school zone to re-enter Highway 68 at Torero Drive.

State Route 183: Del Monte Ave. –  Pajaro Street: August 13  – August 15

There will be alternating lane closures along northbound and southbound State Route 183 between Del Monte Avenue and Pajaro Street for striping operation from 8 pm – 5 am.

Carmel Valley Road and Laureles Grade Roundabout: Carmel Valley Road at Laureles Grade: Long-Term

Construction of the  Carmel Valley and Laureles Grade Roundabout has begun. Construction activities include  the installation of temporary concrete barriers at the approaches to the intersection, temporary traffic controls, such as lane closures. Work hours are weekdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.

During construction, commuters will experience roadway delays. Elkhorn Road Rehabilitation Project: North of Walker Valley Rd.– Salinas Rd.: July – Oct.

Traffic controls will be in place along Elkhorn Road between north of Walker Valley Road (postmile 1.9) and Salinas Road (postmile 8.0) for pavement rehabilitation work from 7 am – 5 pm. Occasional night work will occur between 7 pm and 5 am. The public is advised to use an alternate route.

Marina: Imjin Parkway

Traffic Control is in place for your safety!

The recommended speed through roundabouts (during construction) is 15 mph.

·       Abrams Drive (south) – closed between Imjin Parkway and Bunker Hill until early August.

·       Imjin Parkway to Reservation Road-double right turn has been reduced to one lane.

·       Access to the Shell gas station shall remain, as it is, from Imjin Parkway or from Abrams.

Activities

Detour signs will be in place to guide traffic onto alternate routes. A signed alternate route for Blanco Road “westbound” (toward Monterey) traffic approaching Reservation Road is posted. This alternate route will begin at the signal with Research Drive through the UC-MBEST property (between Blanco Road and Imjin Parkway) using Research Drive and University.

Truck Detour

  • A truck detour is implemented for trucks over 45’. No trucks over 45’ on Imjin Parkway between Reservation Road and Abrams Drive. Signage will be up alerting trucks over 45’ about the detour along Inter-Garrison Road, Abrams Drive and Reservation Road.

Emergency vehicles will always have access. Visit the project website at www.imjinparkway.com for the most current information or to view the live camera feeds for traffic conditions.

Monterey County Road Closures:

There are short-term and long-term road closures in Monterey County due to poor road conditions and debris on the roadways. Highway 1 remains closed 40 miles south of Carmel due to the Regent’s Slide.
